TRAINING

Who is required to undertake Manual Training?

  • - Manual Handling training is not mandatory for all staff? However, where manual handling does involve a risk of injury the employer needs to act.
  • - A third of all workplace injuries reported to the HSA annually are caused by manual handling activities.
  • - It applies to a work activity that ‘By reason of its characteristics or of unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injury, to employees.
  • - Manual handling training needs to be specific and relevant to the tasks involved and the training should reflect this.

Duration:

Approximately 3 Hours, this will depend on the complexity of the handling procedures being taught. 

Certification:

You will receive a Manual Handling certificate on the successful completion of this course. 

Training Format:

Classroom based either in the Client premises or suitable training centre. 

Course Content:

On completion of this course, you will:

  • Be aware of the legislative requirements in relation to manual handling.
  • Acquire the basic knowledge on risk factors for back problems
  • Be aware of how to carry out a basic manual handling risk assessment to determine if the load can be handled safely.
  • Be aware of the specific manual handling hazards in you work area.
  • Be aware of measures to avoid or reduce the risk of injury including use of mechanical aids or reorganisation of the work activity.
  • State the main principles of safer manual handling.
  • Carry out relevant manual handling techniques and understand the need to further develop these skills in the workplace.

Skill Assessments to be undertaken Include:

  • Floor Lift
  • Bench Lift
  • Bench to Height (Shoulder)
  • Pushing and Pulling
  • Team Lift (Two or more handlers)
  • Questionnaire of ten (10) questions of which you must get 80% correct.
